Child Safety Standards

Effective date: September 1, 2026  |  Version 1.0  |  Applies to the Surfaced Social mobile app and surfacedsocial.com

Our commitment

Surfaced Social is a social platform, and child safety is a non-negotiable priority across everything we build. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) on Surfaced Social. This page sets out the standards we hold ourselves to, the controls we operate, and how anyone can report concerns to us.

These standards apply globally to all users of Surfaced Social, regardless of age, location, or how they access the platform. They are reviewed regularly and updated as laws, technology, and best practices evolve.

Definitions

Child. Any person under the age of 18, or the higher age of majority defined by applicable local law.

CSAE (Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation). Any content, behaviour, or activity that sexually abuses, exploits, or endangers a child. This includes grooming, sextortion, trafficking, the production or solicitation of sexual content involving a child, and any conduct intended to facilitate offline harm.

CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material). Any visual depiction, including photographs, videos, illustrations, and computer-generated or AI-generated imagery, involving a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. CSAM is illegal under the laws of virtually every jurisdiction we operate in, and is prohibited on Surfaced Social without exception.

Standards we enforce

In-app reporting

Anyone can report content or accounts directly inside the app without leaving the screen they are on:

  1. Tap the three-dot menu on any post, Story, comment, or profile
  2. Select Report, then choose Child safety
  3. Submit; child safety reports are routed to a priority queue for immediate review

Reports can also be made from outside the app by emailing info@surfacedsocial.com. You do not need an account to report a concern, and reporters remain confidential.

How we respond to CSAM

  1. Immediate removal: confirmed CSAM is removed as soon as it is identified
  2. Account action: the responsible account is permanently banned, along with associated accounts we can identify
  3. Preservation and reporting: we preserve evidence as required by law and report CSAM to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and, where applicable, to other relevant authorities in the user's jurisdiction
  4. Cooperation: we cooperate with law enforcement requests made through appropriate legal process

Legal compliance

Surfaced Social complies with applicable child safety laws in the jurisdictions where we operate, including CSAM reporting obligations, and with the child safety requirements of the app stores that distribute the app, including the Google Play Child Safety Standards policy. We review these standards regularly against evolving legal requirements.
